HEI wins US EPA's 2012 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award
By Mick Tan 18 June 2012
HEI, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2006, was honored for its commitment to energy efficiency. HEI's green efforts focus on the deployment of capital that targets technology in lighting upgrades and HVAC systems, teamed with operational programs such as its custom dashboard called the Energy Looking Glass (ELG) and incentive programs for key hotel personnel. This combination of capital and operational awareness has allowed HEI to save 20.2 percent on energy costs company-wide since the program began in 2005.
The 2012 Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a group of organizations that have exhibited reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by setting and achieving aggressive goals, employing innovative approaches, and showing others what can be achieved through energy efficiency. These awards recognize leadership across the ENERGY STAR program including energy-efficient products, services, new homes and buildings in the commercial, industrial and public sectors. Award winners are selected from about 20,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.
HEI Hotels & Resorts is headquartered in Norwalk, Connecticut.
ENERGY STAR was introduced by the US Environmental Protection Agency in 1992 as a voluntary market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through increased energy efficiency. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, ENERGY STAR has over 20,000 organizations that are ENERGY STAR partners.
