URBN signs for 300mn RMB hotel in Shanghai

URBN Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with Chinese developer Chengtou to develop a 300 million RMB landmark boutique hotel. 
 
The hotel, URBN’s third, will be located in the Lu Xiang Yuan district between two famous landmarks Cheng Huang Miao (Yu Gardens) and Xin Tian Di, walking distance to the Bund and People's Square.
 
The 9,000 square metre luxury boutique property is being designed by SPACE Development and KoKai Studios. It will feature 75 guest rooms, an URBN wellness spa, international food and beverage outlets and a private Chinese restaurant. It will also be developed in line with URBN’s pre-stated commitment to sustainability.
 
URBN Lu Xiang Yuan will open in the spring of 2012.

Along with our URBN Sunlin project, with Wanke, it proves both our vision and the growth of demand for quality boutique hotels, is right in line with our expansion plans. URBN LuXiangYuan, cements our place as the dominant force and No. 1 boutique hotel and resort company in China,” said URBN Hotels and Resorts managing director, Jules Kwan.
 
URBN is also developing a Shanghai property with Chinese real estate developer Vanke, a 450 million RMB project that will include 55 rooms plus 50 serviced residences.
 
URBN Hotel Pudong, which will open in spring 2012, aims to be LEED gold certified making it the most sustainably-built and green-operated hotel in Asia.  
 
 “This is the beginning of a very exciting time for the URBN hotels and resorts brand, we are seeing great opportunities for growth both domestically and abroad. Our next projects on the horizon include a new resort concept in China and URBN retreat villas in Sri Lanka,” said managing director Scott Barrack.
