Travellers turn to tablets: are hotels ready?

Travellers turn to tablets: are hotels ready?

By Lachlan Colquhoun 11 July 2012

A recent study from online research group Greystripe has revealed the extent to which travel shoppers are using tablet devices through all stages of travel, with major implications for hotel websites.

The study of just under 1000 users found that 67 percent of iPad users are frequent travelers, 60 percent of them have booked travel with their tablet device and 93 percent regularly engage with the device while travelling.

iPad users - 69 percent - are more likely than touch smartphone users - 60 percent - to use the mobile web to book travel, get travel information or research local attractions.

IPad users are more likely than iPhone and Android users to use their device to make travel bookings, according to the research.

Smartphone users are also highly influenced by discounts, while iPad users are less price conscious and less influenced by discounts and promotions.

Greystripe said the research indicated the need for hotels to have tablet optimised websites.
