Top hotel openings in 2012

While there are seemingly fewer high profile openings in the pipeline for the Asia Pacific region in 2012, there are still plenty of new properties looming on the horizon.
According to the latest statistics from STR Global, an estimated 559 projects are expected to open in the Asia Pacific region in 2012 with 139,432 rooms in total. That’s in contrast to 399 projects totalling 73,262 rooms in 2011.
HMA previews a few of the most high profile openings expected to take place in the region in 2012.
‘First hotel under IHG’s new China brand’
IHG’s former CEO Andrew Cosslett stated in October 2011 that InterContinental Hotels Group expected to open the first property under its new upper midscale China brand in late 2012 or early 2013.
Solís Vanke Center, Shenzhen, China
The 200-room Solís Vanke Center, Shenzhen, China is the result of a union between Chinese real estate developer China Vanke Company Limited has joined forces with Solis Hotels & Resorts and marks the launch of the Solís Hotels & Resorts brand in China. The property will open in two phases with the conference centre estimated to open end of June, 2011 followed by the hotel opening in the second quarter of 2012.
Hyatt Hotels Corporation last year entered into an agreement via an affiliate with Bahagia Investment Corporation (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to manage a Grand Hyatt hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, which will be located in the Golden Triangle of the Malaysian city, is currently under construction and is expected to open in 2012.
Como resort, Phuket, Thailand
Singapore-based hotel group Como Hotels & Resorts is in the process of developing a new property on the Yamu peninsula of Phuket in Thailand. Located in Phang Nga Bay on the northeast coast of Phuket, the property will be the ninth in the Como portfolio and is scheduled to open in September 2012. It will be the group’s second Thai property after the Metropolitan in Bangkok.
Hong Kong-headquartered Swiss-Belhotel International is scheduled to open a hotel in Wuxi in China in the second quarter of 2012.
Fairmont Nanjing
Scheduled to open late 2012, the Fairmont Nanjing will be part of the JinAo Plaza development in southwest Nanjing featuring a 56-story building housing the hotel and office space, along with retail and residential offerings.
Sheraton Macao Hotel – Cotai Central
The Sheraton Macao Hotel – Cotai Central is one of 10 new properties set to open under the Sheraton brand in 2012 by Starwood Hotels & Resorts. Nine of the new resorts will open in China, and the other in Indonesia.
