Special Report: Food and Hotel Asia Expo 2010
More than 50,000 visitors were expected to attend the 2010 edition of Food and Hotel Asia Expo which took place last week in Singapore.
Whilst many of the 2,500 companies exhibiting at the event were perhaps more relevant to the catering sector, there was still plenty to interest the visiting hospitality professional, in particular the two-day Hospitality Operations & Design conference, which was held for the first time this year at the biennial event.
Highlights of the conference included the keynote speech on what makes a great hotel by Amadeo Zarzosa, general manager, St Regis Singapore, and the panel discussion on environmental design, moderated by Arnfinn Oines, Social & Environmental Conscience, Six Senses Resorts & Spas.
See below for our report on these sessions, and look out for our video interviews from the Expo coming soon.
Opening the Expo, Albert Teo, second vice president of the Singapore Hotel Association, commented that after a difficult year in 2009 business appeared to be picking up. February 2010 registered a record number of visitor arrivals to Singapore for the third consecutive month, he noted.
The mood on the floor was slightly more subdued with some exhibitors commenting that business was still a bit tough, although most were optimistic that there would be an uptick in the second half of the year.
Genuine service and unique experiences two of key elements in creating a great hotel, says St Regis Singapore gm in speech at FHA Expo.
