Six Senses installs solar power at Maldives resort
13 July 2010
Six Senses Resorts & Spas has announced it has installed a solar photovoltaic power plant system at its flagship resort Soneva Fushi in the Maldives.
The 70KW plant will be the largest renewable energy plant in operation in the Maldives, the company said.
“This is a significant first step in achieving our commitment of a net zero carbon footprint for Soneva Fushi by 2012 as well as supporting the carbon reduction goals of the Maldives government,” said Six Senses chairman and CEO Sonu Shivdasani. “We are hoping that our example will lead other resorts in the Maldives and other island grids around the world to also pursue solar PV as a low cost clean energy alternative.”
The plant was supplied by German firm Beck Electric, and shipped to the Maldives in a 40-foot container. It took two weeks to install.
The luxury resort operator said that following a successful trial period it now plans to quadruple the size of the system in 2010 to provide almost half of the resort’s electricity.

Others should follow this example, today we have the technology to use solar power, every moment we don't use it is a waste, we can't afford this luxury.
