Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts unveils plans for new China resort

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has announced the development for a new city resort in China to be located in the south western province of Yunnan.

The 230-room Shangri-La Hotel, Diqing is slated to open in early 2013.
 
“Together with the opening of Shangri-La Hotels in Chongqing and Lhasa at the end of 2011 and 2012 respectively and the existing property in Chengdu, we are extending our portfolio into the western regions of mainland China,” said Shangri-La’s president and CEO Greg Dogan. “Diqing is famous for its natural scenery and we are especially pleased to enter Shangri-La county with its beautiful name and mythical background for which our company was named.”
 
Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts hotels under the Shangri-La and Traders brands, with a rooms inventory of over 30,000.  The group has over 40 projects under development in Austria, Canada, mainland China, France, India, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Mongolia, Russia, Qatar, Seychelles, Turkey and United Kingdom. 
 
Other projects in the pipeline in China according to the company’s website include: Kerry Hotel, Pudong, Shanghai, slated to open in the first quarter of 2011; the Shangri-La, Manzhouli, second quarter, 2011; Shangri-La, Chongqing, fourth quarter, 2011; Shangri-La, Yangzhou, first quarter, 2012; Jing An Shangri-La, Shanghai, second quarter, 2012; Shangri-La, Lhasa, fourth quarter, 2012; Shangri-La, Nanjing, second quarter, 2013; Shangri-La, Tianjin, 2013; Shangri-La, Qinghuangdao, 2013; and the Shangri-La, Tangshan, 2013.
