Le Méridien Angkor wins award for innovation

Le Méridien Angkor in Siem Reap, Cambodia has won an award for its innovative arrival experience.
The hotel was given the award for best innovative concept in full service hotels in the Worldwide Hospitality Awards organized by the MKG Group.
Le Méridien said its arrival experience is unique because of four points: first, what the hotel operator terms 'a transitional portal', which involves installing contemporary artwork in a portal; second, 'a sensory experience', whereby a distinctive scent and sound are used in the hotel lobby; third, 'unlock art', whereby decorative cards are used for entering rooms; fourth, 'an elevated experience', which involves the use of a 24-hour soundscape to transform the humdrum experience of the elevator ride.
“We are delighted that the Worldwide Hospitality Awards has recognised our efforts with this prestigious accolade for the Best Innovative Concept and we see this as the first step towards making Le Méridien Hotels around the world a ‘creative hub’,” commented Eva Ziegler, global brand leader, Le Méridien and W Hotels Worldwide.
Le Méridien said the arrival experience, which was launched in 2008 as part of a re-launch of Le Méridien brand, is currently implemented in 80% of Le Méridien hotels worldwide.
Other winners in the Worldwide Hospitality Awards, which took place in November 2009, included Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi’s Kai Speth who was voted best general manager, and Georg Rafael from the Rafael Group who won the lifetime achievement award.
