Langham teams up with EarthCheck

By HMA Staff 03 May 2010

Langham Hotels International has forged a partnership with EarthCheck, a benchmark of sustainable travel and tourism operators.

All Langham and Eaton properties will upgrade to EarthCheck as a result of the agreement.

The Langham, Auckland is already certified using EarthCheck , while Eaton Hotel Kong Hong and Langham Place Mongkok, Hong Kong are pending silver certification audits under EarthCheck later this month.

Developed by the Australian Government-funded Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Centre, EarthCheck takes a science-based approach to sustainability. It is a web-based solution that is suitable for both large and small suitable organizations. It makes it possible to track and measure resource use and waste output, enhance design and operational efficiencies, and encourage Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

“Environmental advocates and stakeholders are calling on companies to demonstrate the role they must play in climate change mitigation and policy development,” said John Dick, vice president, Eaton Hotels International. “This is reflected in the number of companies that are reporting on their policies and engagement efforts in response to new regulations including the Green House Gas (GHG) Protocols.”
