IHG said to have signed 12 contracts for new China brand
19 October 2011InterContinental Hotels Group has signed 12 contracts so far for its under development China specific hotel brand, according to a report by news agency Reuters which cited the company’s China chief executive Keith Barr.
The first hotel under the new and as yet unnamed brand is slated to open late 2012 or early 2013, Barr said according to the report.
He added that plans were also underfoot to expand the China specific brand overseas in two to three years time in order to capture a slice of the fast growing Chinese international travel market.
IHG announced in February plans to launch a new upper midscale brand in China, a key development for the brand as it continues its expansion in Asia.
The company has previously announced its intention to increase the number of rooms it has in Greater China eightfold over the next 20 years.
