Hotels offer amenities in online stores

By HMA Staff 13 December 2011

Major hotel brands are giving guests the ability to buy branded (and non-branded) hotel amenities directly from the hotel. The newest hotel chain to participate, Hilton, offered Hilton HHonors loyalty members access to an online Global Shopping Mall. Items available in the store include fitness equipment and Tiffany jewelry.

Marriott International, which previously allowed the redemption of reward points for use in the purchase of free nights, now allows the accumulation of reward points to be spent at the online store for electronics, jewelry and fashion accessories. Ritz-Carlton is offering its online shopping website to everyone regardless of loyalty program admission, and it is even possible to buy mattresses from their online store.

I don't think that regular people with regular incomes can get anywhere near these websites. And a lot of people aren't even used to buying things online, because they prefer to see the product before they buy it. I own a restaurant and the only thing I shop for online are the restaurant supplies because I know the people I buy from and I rely on that. Otherwise, I prefer the traditional way of doing my shopping.

This is one major marketing move, but I'm sure it will work. I looked around on the Ritz Carlton site and they have great deals on branded perfumes, like for the Acqua Di Gio perfume which I expected would be expensive. I just wish they had more discounts for their rooms though.

I love the idea, especially when these hotels sell stuff like bulgari and hermes, there is business to be done...
