Hilton hotel closed in Chongqing

By HMA Staff 23 June 2010
(Update) A branch of the Hilton Hotel chain in China’s Chongqing was shut down on Monday by police investigating allegations of prostitution.

Police in southwest China's Chongqing municipality closed the local Hilton Hotel and arrested 22 people suspected of running a prostitution ring, state press reported.

Chongqing police were investigating the owner of the property, Qinglong Property Development Co, and its alleged links to an underworld gang running a prostitution ring at the hotel, China National Radio said.

Management at the hotel has confirmed the establishment had been closed, but refused to comment on the investigation. The hotel has said it will reopen on July 6.

"Hilton Worldwide abides by all laws in every country in which its brands operate and is fully cooperating with the investigation. While Diamond Dynastic KTV is located in the same building complex as our hotel, it is an independently owned and operated business. As this is an ongoing investigation, we can not make any further comments at this time,” a spokesperson for Hilton said in an emailed statement to Hotel Management Asia.

The Hilton International Hotel Group is understood to manage the business in a joint venture with the property company.
