Club Med to open 2nd resort in China
15 November 2011Resort brand Club Med is to open a second resort in China next year. The resort will be located in Guilin in the Guanxi province and is set to open next August.
The resort company opened its first Club Med resort in China, the Yabui resort in Heilongjiang province, in December 2010.
Club Med will operate and market the new 4-Trident resort, which is currently a Relais & Chateaux site, through a ten-year management contract with site owner ChinaPaoShan.
Located in Guanxi Province in southern China, Guilin is one of the country's prime tourist destinations, renowned for its unique scenery. Guilin attracted more than 20 million Chinese tourists and 1.4 million international visitors in 2010.
The resort will open with 162 rooms split by a main building housing 116 rooms and a "chateau" with 46 rooms, most of them suites. A design plan to expand the resort to more than 300 rooms is planned for the summer of 2013.
In addition, Club Med announced plans to open five locations in China by 2015 in order to grow its share of China's potential four- and five-star resort customers.
In June 2010, the resort company announced its intention to attract 5-10% of potential Chinese visitors to four- and five-star resorts by 2015, making China potentially its second largest market.
