Carlson Hotels Worldwide is planning to launch its Regent brand into India, the company has announced.

In a statement, the firm said it plans to open The Regent Gurgaon in late 2013 as one of a number of openings in the development pipeline for Asia.

Elsewhere, it said it plans to open properties under the upscale Regent brand in Bangkok (in 20120, Kuala Lumpur (2012), The Maldives (2010), and Phuket (2011).

“The Regent brand has strong historical roots in Asia. With this new property, Regent will now have a total of nine properties in the region, including three in operation, and six contracted projects,” said Hubert Joly, president and CEO, Carlson.

Carlson Hotels Worldwide currently operates hotels under the Regent brand in Beijing, Singapore and Taipei.

The 160-room hotel is being developed by local real estate developer Pioneer Urban Land and Infrastructure Ltd. The hotel plus residences will be part of a 75-acre mixed-use development.

Pioneer Urban Land and Infrastructure Ltd chairman and managing director Manish Periwal commented that the city of Gurgaon, India’s sixth largest city, had a limited supply of internationally branded hotels given its growing status as a regional headquarters for multinationals.

Carlson Hotels Worldwide’s other brands are Regent Hotels & Resorts, Radisson Hotels & Resorts, Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Country Inns & Suites By CarlsonSM and Park Inn.
