Aloft trials mobile check-in system

By HMA Staff 22 February 2010

Starwood Hotels & Resorts is piloting a new-check in system at its Aloft hotels which allows guests to bypass the traditional check-in process and head straight for their rooms.

Under the new Smart Check-in program, designed by security technology solution provider VinCard Elsafe, Starwood preferred guest members receive an electronic keycard which enables them to check in to their room using their mobile phone.

The solution, which runs on radio frequency identification technology (RFID), is being tested at Starwood’s Aloft hotel in Lexington, Massachusetts.

Starwood is not the first to try mobile check-in as a solution to delays at the check-in counter. In 2008, Omni Hotels announced it was providing an online check-in service enabling guests to check-in using a web-enabled mobile device before reaching their destination.
