Starwood Hotels & Resorts is to open three new hotels in India this year under its trendy Aloft brand.

The new properties will be located in the cities of Chennai (second quarter), Bangalore (second quarter), and Coimbatore (fourth quarter), and are part of a global expansion strategy for the fast-growing brand with ten new hotels in total set to open this year.

Starwood currently has 40 hotels globally under the Aloft brand which it launched in June 2008.

"The Aloft brand is an important source of fuel for Starwood's strategic, global expansion, with owners, developers and guests embracing the game-changing concept," said Simon Turner, president of Global Development. "The brand, which has an existing presence in four countries, is at a pivotal point in its growth cycle and is poised to continue to break new ground in 2010 as it debuts in India and Europe, while further establishing its presence in the US and China."

Aloft is described is delivering ‘style at a steal with urban-influenced, modern, open and vibrant design’. The brand is also noted for its innovation in technology – it was the one of the first hotels to provide an automatic check-in program.

Future plans for Aloft in the Asia Pacific region include the opening of three Aloft hotels in China: the Aloft Nanhai-Foshan in the second quarter of 2011, the Aloft Zhenghou Shangjie in first quarter of 2012, and the Aloft Dalian in 2014.

Starwood also plans to open three further hotels in India under Aloft by the end of 2012.

An Aloft hotel in Thailand, Bangkok, is also in the pipeline.
